Judge Roanne Sragow Licht (Ret.) was the first justice of the Cambridge District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed by former Governor Michael Dukakis in 1990.
During her tenure on the bench, she is credited with helping to establish a Homeless Court in Cambridge, which she presided on for twenty-two years. The Homeless Court was held at the First Parish Church in Caimbridge.
Prior to joining the bench, Sragow was a partner at Lack & Sragow, where she had practiced since 1982. She was also a partner at Kerry & Sragow (1979-1982) and had worked as an assistant district attorney with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office for four years prior to that. She received a B.A. from Tufts University in 1972. Sragow then completed a J.D. at Boston College Law School in 1975. Her memberships included the Massachusetts Judges Conference (president), the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the National Association of Women Judges, and the Board of Directors of Lawyers Weekly. She also served on the Board of Directors of the New England Institute of Technology and was a member of the Leadership Council with Legal Services Corp. She received the President’s Award for Judicial Excellence from the Massachusetts Judges Conference in 2000.
