John Koehl

Koehl Consulting

John L. Koehl is a technology executive with more than 20 years of experience building complex software solutions across a diverse range of industries. A recognized expert in software development, architecture, and Agile delivery, John has established himself as a subject-matter expert in Healthcare Care Management, Voter Registration and Election Management, and Corporate Entities and Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) systems. Throughout his career, he has consistently operated at the leading — and often bleeding — edge of technology, translating complex business problems into class-leading solutions delivered on time and under budget. He has been responsible for several industry firsts, including the first live internet broadcast of a Division I college football game in 2003 and the first real-time election-night reporting portal to deliver instantaneous results during a national federal election cycle. More recently, John has focused on how Artificial Intelligence can be leveraged to dramatically increase productivity and quality across the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

John currently serves as Vice President of Product Development at a leading national healthcare information technology company, where he leads a multi-year enterprise transformation consolidating more than ten legacy products into a single, industry-leading Care Management platform. Since 2019, he has also owned and operated Koehl Consulting, LLC, leveraging his extensive technology and software development experience to deliver solutions across industries including human resources, legal case management, and MDL case review and disbursement.

Previously, as Senior Director of Product Development at another national healthcare information technology firm, John led post-acquisition product consolidation and guided a successful state-level implementation aligned with CMS modular certification standards. As Director of Software Development at a regional healthcare technology company, he rebuilt a 40-person engineering organization, supported revenue growth exceeding 300% on the company’s commercial business and 200% on its state contracts, and spearheaded an 18-month modernization effort replacing a legacy ASP.NET application with a modern React-based platform.

Earlier in his career, John experienced steady growth at a Louisiana-based technology and consulting firm, where he served as architect and lead developer of a best-in-class Voter Registration and Election Management system for the State of Louisiana, and designed the GeauxVote mobile application — recipient of the 2013 National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Ideas in Innovation Award. Rising through positions of increasing responsibility, John ultimately led the software organization through two private equity buyouts, scaling a development team of 20 employees into a global delivery organization of more than 300.

John holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Decision Sciences from Louisiana State University and a Master of Business Administration from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified ScrumMaster (CSM).
